Samothrace Nike social media upload sparks demands about her return to Greece

On the Louvre's Facebook page

Newsroom July 13 10:21

“It is stolen, bring it back”. “Nike belongs to its homeland of Samothrace”, outcry Greeks towards the Louvre museum on its official Facebook page, with French users replying that “all those who ask for her return are stupid and funny”.

Hundreds of messages praising the beauty and referring to the “kidnapping” of the statue, in English, French and in Greek, have been flooding the Louvre’s upload that refers to the completion of maintenance on Nike of Samothrace and her return to the west wing of the well-known museum.
The ancient statue of incomparable beauty, which has been located in the Louvre for 130 years, has been visited by millions of visitors, but has spent ten months in a different place, for maintenance and reparation of damages, some of which were caused by the French themselves. The posting of the news of the Louvre for Nike’s return to a prominent museum spot sparked dozens of comments from Greeks talking about a stolen ancient statue, whose rightful position is in Samothrace, demanding its return.
